Those Mean Doctors

Today we spent the morning getting school physicals for Virginia (a lot more in depth then any school district we've been in!). Rachel enjoyed coloring on the paper on the bed...
Hannah had to get a vaccination. She was not too pleased and said, "Those doctors hurt me!"  Her eyes read, why did you let that happen!?!  Sweet girl. She definatly earned these Cheetos at our next stop to get the oil changed.

Close Call

It was a very rain soaked day today. I love days like today, it reminds me of Seattle. I miss Seattle.  The main difference is when it rains here it doesn't cool off, it stays hot and humid.
Anyway, the girls and I were on an errand to the recycle center and we were following a pick-up truck that was towing a trailer with two large pieces of what looked like granite. Anyway, the trailer started to sway back and forth and I slowed down. Then it really rocked violently back and forth and I noticed one of the tires on the trailor had blown. Suddenly the trailer came unhooked from the truck and twisted far to one side and went across oncoming traffic and off the road! I can't believe it didn't fall over! I also feel blessed that the girls and I were protected. It could have been bad if the trailer had jerked a different way. Counting my blessings!
I took this photo on my way back from the recycle center. I saw the pickup truck up in town at a tire store. Crazy business!

Line Up!

When you read about characteristic beahviors of children with autism, lining things up is something kids with ASD do. When I went into Rach's room tonight she had all these cars lined up. I asked her if she had lined up her cars and she said, "No Mom, they are in a traffic jam!"  I love her growing ability to communicate and help us understand how she thinks. She really is quite amazing.

Jake has not always been very positive about wearing a tie. Since he has turned 12 and received the Priesthood he has been very compliant about wearing a tie to church. Now, he's got it all figured out and ties the tie himself.  Such a handsome boy...

Rachel Day!!!

Rachel has been very excited to go to Planes Fire and Rescue since she found out it was being made. The movie made her sad and she was upset most of the movie.  She LOVES Dusty and didn't like seeing him so upset and hurt throughout the movie.  After the movie we went to her friend Audrey's birthday at the lake. Audrey and Rachel are besties at school. So cute. I think the lake helped her feel a bit better.  Soon after the cake was served she looked at me and said, "I need to go home."  She was sad in her room for awhile but seems to have recovered. Poor sweetie...I love her!

Friday FUN Day

Today is Friday and we all needed to have some fun.  I took the children to the zoo, later we went swimming and Neil came home with pizza and Rio 2.  It was a fun day. I love these four!

My favorite thing about moving is going through everything and getting rid of stuff we don't use anymore.  These four were troopers and helped, even having to let go of a few things that they wanted to hold on to. We still have more work to do but a DQ run was much deserved!

It has been a very crazy time at our house but we are moving again!  Off to the DC area again.  We found a town home.  It's smaller but we will be saving a bit of money to put in our "buy a house and never move again" account.  The closer we get to retirement the more exciting that prospect gets!  I am also homeschooling Jake this next year.  It's going to be an amazing experience and I think he will really benefit.  It should be exciting!  Meanwhile, I'm going to miss this amazing view...

Jake's First Trip to the Temple

On Friday, March 21, 2014, Jake was able to go to the temple for the first time.  He had a great time.  Neil went with him and the bishopric made sure that everything ran smoothly.  Jake said about the experience, "He felt all feelings except the bad ones."  I really appreciate how hard our ward works to make these important milestones good ones.  Jake has made so much progress and I am so proud of him.  He is saluting in the pics and I am not sure why.  The first pic is the getting ready photo...

FOD and a Leprechaun

Neil had FOD (Field Officer of the Day) on Sunday through Monday morning.  It's not an's extra duty.  Neil goes in, stays the night in his office.  Meanwhile he does checks and writes a report of the checks he did.  It was very rainy and cold.  Poor Neil was FREEZING!!!  The kids and I stayed home from church because I was sick and so was Rachel.  We needed to get a break from the house so we brought cookies to Neil.  It was fun to see him...he really is the BEST!!!
Neil doesn't like it when I take his picture so he sticks out his tongue...real mature ;)
Later that night our leprechaun was nice and didn't make a mess because the kids and I didn't set a trap.  Although Jake did get up earlier than me and saw there was no mess and made a mess.  The kids think it's so funny to have things such a mess.  Even Hannah noticed.  I will have to post pictures later of my Irish reds. Grandma (Mccolley) Schillen would love our little reds representing the IRISH!!!

It's Monday!  The day I recover from the business of the weekend.  Today Hannah and I are hanging out and playing until an IEP meeting.  Two this week!  I'm have to admit, I am getting a little weary of fighting the fight.  Luckily Rachel's new teacher (another change a couple of weeks ago) knows what she is doing and is amazing!  Here is my sweet Hannah enjoying some sun with Rachel's Lego's (shh don't tell Rachel we spend almost everyday in her room playing!).

Dr. Seuss Night

The second grade at West Pine Elementary did an amazing show honoring the creations of Dr. Seuss.  It was such a delight to see Rachel perform.  She is quite an amazing little girl. Rachel is in the front row in a blue dress.  I know most won't be able to tell but I can hear her sweet voice distinctly.  Love her.

Last Week...

Last week was a bit crazy and busy.  So much happened and I didn't get any of it posted!  We started Monday off with a storm during the day (Tornado Watch).  The kids were at school and so I didn't have to pretend that these storms don't FREAK me out.  Luckily, it wasn't too bad, just some wind...
These chairs are always the focus of my photos...they have been through so much!  After school I took the kids to see the new Lego Movie.  It was quite clever and we had a fun time.

That night we had the missionaries for dinner.  It was a full day!  After school the next day was Sean's first soccer practice of the season.  They played their first game on Saturday and tied.  The boys were not too happy after an undefeated season last year.  Here is a shot from our first practice:

Wednesday was the pinewood derby.  I'm sorry to admit it (not really sorry at all) but I HATE the pinewood derby.  It feels like chaos.  Sean prepares SO much and he honestly builds in own car (some guidance with scary tools from Neil), and he never wins.  I know it's not about winning but to him it is.  He didn't do as bad this year as in years past.  He never got third place in any race.  That is saying something!  He held it together for the night.  Jake did an amazing job of supporting him.  The next morning though...the floor dropped out from under him and he was a mess.  Why didn't I get a trophy (9 or the 15 boys got a trophy)?  Why, why, why?  I wasn't as patient as I ought to be and I hate starting the morning off with tantrums.  Oh well, he went to school and pulled of a rather acceptable day.  I love that much passion.  Oh, I took a few photos of me weighing his car at the grocery store to check it's weight.  I'm crazy...I know.

Thursday and Friday were full of things I needed to catch up on.  Friday, Neil and Jake went to a merit badge clinic which finished up on Saturday (it took ALL DAY Saturday).  Jake was a trooper and earned two merit badges!  Saturday for me was Sean's soccer game and taking Sean and Rach to their social group.  Crazy, fun week that makes up fun (and stressful) memories.  I love these five people!

Myrtle Beach 5K

This is our third trip to Myrtle Beach to do the 5K or 1/2 Marathon.  Both times before we have met Jenn and Josh there and got to hang with them.  The last time Mom came and watched the kids so that Jenn, Josh, Neil and I could run the 1/2 marathon together.  That was fun.  This year no one could make it so we signed our family up for the 5K and off we went.  It was FUN!  Neil is a super trooper and put Hannah on his back.  We started all together but the boys wanted to run.  So Neil kept the girls and the boys and I ran the 5K.  I was impressed that I didn't die and mostly kept up with the boys.  Well, we got quite ahead of Neil and the girls.  After the boys and I finished the race, we waited and waited and waited for the other three.  Finally I see Neil come around the corner carrying Rachel (with Hannah still on his back).  He put Rachel down and the boys and I started to cheer for her.  The poor sweetie was in tears, crying and upset.  This was TOO MUCH for Rew.  Apparently she was quite upset and the three got a ride in an ambulance up to before the finish line.  She was happy to get her medal though and said she had fun.  Next fun run?  The next day we did some shopping and headed home.  Such a fun memory!
Getting ready for the race:
Posing with Senor Frog before the race.
A quick shot before the race.  They shot the cannon to start the race right next to us...wasn't expecting that...
The boys and I after the race.
After the girls and Neil finished...super blurry picture.  Makes me sad it is blurry :(
The ambulance that Rachel, Neil and Hannah took a ride in!

It snowed again...

It snowed snowed A LOT!  I think maybe six plus inches?!?  The kids missed another four days of school.  They have missed 7 full days!  Oh, well.  I got some fun photos of this snow.

This picture is to show how deep it was.  The tank on the grill is covered.  It was a lot for us!
Neil trying to get the van out of the garage and up our steep, long driveway.
Cute Hannah watching the snow fall.
The snow was so deep that Hannah could barely walk in it.
Love these three and I think it's funny that the girls' hats ALWAYS fall over their eyes!
This is what Jake's school looked like when I picked him up.  The snow came fast.
I may or may not have been driving while taking this picture.  I took it to send to Neil at Bragg that the rodes in our neck of the woods were getting bad and he needed to head home.  Neil needs visual proof...he's one of those MI types ;).
 Play dough and hot chocolate...
 Many games...
An awesome snow fort that later hosted an event that Sean titled:  The Snow Ball Fight of Helms Deep.  BTW...Sean has the BEST Dad who helped him build this impressive snow fort.  One of the many reasons I love Neil...he's an awesome Dad!
The Happiest Kid EVER!!!
